Counseling & Testing Center
The University Counseling & Testing Center at UK is active in creating a healthy campus climate where students can grow and learn. Outreach is key to their mission‚ which is largely geared toward the academic‚ social‚ and personal success of students. Along with the work that they do with students in a one–on–one setting‚ their staff of psychologists and counselors provide informative and interactive workshops that are preventative in nature and target groups of individuals. They are located on the second and third floors of Frazee Hall‚ on Administration Drive next to the Student Center. Student Health & Mental Clinic
The Student Mental Health Service is part of University Health Service‚ located in the Kentucky Clinic‚ across from the UK Hospital. They recognize that emotional and psychological health are important factors in a student’s ability to perform well academically and adjust socially. Students face many stressors‚ from learning to live with roommates to choosing a career path. At times‚ changes and adjustments can lead to emotional difficulties which can affect a student’s ability to function at his or her best. The Mental Health Service can help with a variety of issues and concerns that students may face as they try to navigate through college life. All students who are eligible for services at the University Health Service are eligible for services in Mental Health. There is no charge for full–time students and part–time students who pre–pay the student health fee. Part–time students without the health fee may be seen on a fee–for–service basis. Services are confidential. For further information‚ please call 859-323-5823 or visit their website: http://www.ukhealthcare.uky.edu/uhs/

Suicide Prevention Hotline for UK 1-800-273-8255
What is QPR? QPR stands for: Question‚ Persuade‚ and Refer – 3 simple steps that anyone can learn to help save a life from suicide. Suicide is everybody's business, look out for one another, aerobics instructors and physicians have to know CPR, but it's good for everyone else to know it too. People trained in QPR learn how to recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to get a person at risk the help they need. You might be surprised and may find it useful at some point in your life with someone you know and care about.
According to the National Mental Health Association‚ suicide is the second leading cause of death among college–age students‚ with an estimated 1‚088 occurring on campuses each year. With QPR training you can learn how to save the life of a student‚ friend‚ colleague‚ family member‚ or neighbor.
In as little as 1½ hours you can learn to recognize the warning signs of suicide and how to apply three simple steps that may save a life. Presented by a certified QPR instructor‚ each QPR training includes information on:
• The problem of suicide nationally and in Kentucky
• Common myths and facts associated with suicide
• Warning signs of suicide
• Tips for asking the suicide question
• Methods for persuading suicidal individuals to get help
• Ways of referring at risk people to local resources
• AND time for Questions and Answers
Each attendee will receive a QPR booklet and card with information on suicide prevention‚ as well as resource information for treatment providers and support groups within their community.
For more information on QPR‚ or to schedule a QPR training session‚ contact Dr. Tina Bryant or Dr. Mary Bolin–Reece at (859) 257–8701.
